The Pig Program
In celebration of our founder, the Rev. Dr. Mary McLeod Bethune and all the founders of Seattle Section, the 150 Pig Program is dedicated in particular to the Rev. Dr. Mary McLeod Bethune’s founding of Bethune-Cookman College with $1.50 and the time and money invested in this Section by our founders. An invitation is extended to members and friends alike to contribute $1.50 per month for the next three years; or $13.50 per year for a three year period; or $40.50 total for the three year period.
All funds collected will be deposited and earmarked for Educational Awards, to be distributed at our Founders Day Celebration/Seattle Section 45th Year Celebration, October 2013, a symbolic piggy bank will be broken open. Scared Adornments ■ Scarves for our Sisters
Scared Adornments is another Seattle Section sponsored project. Seattle Section is collecting new and colorful scarves for all of our sisters who are embarking on a Hope-filled journey; a journey to recovery. All scarves collected will be given to our Cierra Sisters, an African American breast cancer support group. At the October 2011 Luncheon, where Dr. Evelyn Bethune was our guest speaker, well over 100 scarves were given to Cierra Sisters. Dr. Evelyn Bethune who resides in Florida, is the grand daughter of our founder, Dr. Mary McLeod Bethune.
We pray that our scarf collection in 2012 will exceed last year's gift to our Cierra Sisters. For more information of this project, contact us.
